Scam Baiting Vigilante

How Can We Prevent Being Victims of Scammers

So, what is currently being done to help us defend ourselves against scammers?  We can see they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.  There seems to be no depth these scammers won’t sink to in order to rob us.  We all have some suggestions as to what should happen legally, but see how hard and complex it is to create and enforce any kind of actionable laws when it comes to regional or international scammers.

Thanks to scammers we now have a new cultural form of vigilantism united against scammers and scammer behaviors.  They are known as scam baiters, who troll scammers using the scammer's phone system setup combined with feeding back the social engineering tactics scammers use on their victims.  Note: we do not embed files of any kind within this page's source code.  These recordings may not be safe for work or young listeners.

Disclaimer For Our Listeners –

While this is certainly entertaining and insightful we do not encourage you to make attempts at trolling scammers like you hear taking place in these audio. These are intended to be educational.  The whole point of trolling scammers is to tie up their time and their phone lines so that they can’t scam anyone.  This means they loose money.  Some scammers use pre-paid minute cards so you get a bonus of eating up their minutes.  Most pre-paid minute cards used by scammers average about two hours.  So when scammers call you, your personal goal is to see how many minutes of that two-hour pre-paid minutes phone card you can waste.

It’s tempting and seems so simple to take on the role of scam-baiting, as it’s known, keep in mind you have to have a great level of knowledge related to how US law is interpreted as well as how businesses operate and how communication platforms work in order to avoid being a direct target of unwanted calls that will keep you from using your own phone number for every day communication.  Some versions of scam baiting involve the setting up of virtual computers in order to better understand how online scams work.  You need to have a solid understanding of computer systems and online technology itself to mitigate scammer impacts in some cases.  We suggest you leave these scam-baiting techniques to the professionals and simply listen to learn how these scams work and the mentality of the scammers behind them.

However, what you can do is listen to these audio files and feel free to employ the concept of pretending to be ignorant or engaging in inane and completely off-base conversations when you recognize the numbers of scammers calling you.  Giving off-base responses throws the scammers off-script; making them angry, as you’ll hear while listening to these recordings.  Don’t forget to press one on your phone to connect to a live agent.  Now, that the disclaimer is out of the way, sit back, listen and enjoy.  (Some US cultural references may be unknown if you’re young or not a US born citizen).
